to the Wineries of Northern Greece

The Wine Roads of Northern Greece looking forward to welcome you  the wineries of Northern Greece. On Sunday 12th, November 2017 we organise a wine tasting day trip from Thessaloniki to celebrate together the EUROPEAN DAY OF WINE TOURISM! As every second Sunday in November wine tourism celebrates its day. On the 12th of November, the main wine regions in Europe join the celebration with a wide and varied range of proposals for wine and wine tourism lovers. The Wine Tourism Day celebration is an initiative pioneered by the European Network of Wine Cities (RECEVIN), which has been held every year since 2009.

Join us in our Wine Tasting Day trip and let's visit together the wineries of Northern Greece. We start on the 12th  of November from Aristotelous Square at 09:00 a.m and our first destination is Goumenissa an area with a long tradition in wine making.

We will visit the Chatzivariti  Estate and Winery where we will be toured in the vine yards and and experience - taste the Wines of the Chatzivariti Estate. The vineyard of Domain Catzivariti consists of 120 acres. Emphasizing the quality of the grapes, soil fertility and environmental protection. We will combine our visit with a light meal* during the wine tasting and we will continue to another great winery.

We will continue to Yannakochori, in Naoussa where we will visti Ktima Kir-Yannis (Kir-Yannis Estate). Naoussa is a well known wine producing are of Northern Greece. Here is the  base of Boutaris Wine Group of the oldest wine companies in Greece. Kir-Yianni was founded in 1997 by Yiannis Boutaris (interesting fact, Mr. Yannis Boutaris is the Mayor of Thessaloniki), one of the leading figures in the Greek wine industry, when he left the Boutari Wine Group, the premium family wine company that his grandfather established in 1879. Today, Stellios Boutaris, member of the fifth generation of winemakers, leads Kir-Yianni into the next phase of its history.

In our visit we will enjoy the breathtaking views of the Kir-Yianni vineyards nestled on the rolling slopes of mount Vermion, stroll amid Xinomavro vines, taste our wines right in the place where they are produced, and get acquainted with the Boutaris family legacy. 

We will end our interesting day trip with a final stop at the Thicket of Agios Nikolaos (one of my most favourite places in this big world). Here we will have time to enjoy a walk next to the river of Arapitsa, surrounded by sixty acres of spectacular land, enjoy a meal in the local restaurants, or have a picnic under the age-long planes and Oaks. Our arrival at Thessaloniki is estimated around 18:00. 

The European Day of Wine Tourism is a wonderful opportunity for you to be initiated to the magical world of wine, get to know the wine making procedure and taste exceptional Branded Greek Wines.
